Guatemalan man found hiding in landing gear compartment after flight arrives in Florida, agents say

MIAMI — A Guatemalan man was hospitalized after he was found in the landing gear compartment of an aircraft arriving in Florida, officials said.

Agents with U.S. Customs and Border Protection said the 26-year-old man was apprehended after a flight from Guatemala landed Saturday morning at Miami International Airport.

Officials said the man was in the compartment to “evade detection.”

After he was evaluated by medical staff, the man was taken to a hospital for treatment, according to a news release.

Border patrol agents said, “Persons are taking extreme risks when they try to conceal themselves in confined spaces such as an aircraft.”

Officials said this incident remains under investigation.
