ORLANDO, Fla. — Police say a man was arrested for stealing nearly $96,000 from an armored truck company, and his co-worker who allegedly helped him remains on the run.
33-year-old Nelson Arias was arrested and charged with grand theft.
According to arrest records, Arias and another suspect, Gustavo Hernandez, plotted to steal the money late last month from the company Dunbar Armored, Inc. The men, who were both employees of the company, allegedly transferred 11 bags of cash onto a truck, but deliberately left one bag behind. That bag contained $95,839, according to investigators.
When the shipment arrived at a Brinks facility in South Orlando, workers quickly realized the bag was missing, police say.
Arias reportedly confessed to the crime and turned over $33,025.
Hernandez allegedly told Arias he plans to run off to Haiti, according to the arrest report. Investigators believe he has the remaining $62,814. He has not been located.
Arias posted bond and was released from jail. He did not return calls seeking comment.
