FLAGLER COUNTY, Fla. — Winds just keep building as the day goes on. And after the sun came out, you can see jut how high the waves are getting at Flagler Pier, bringing lots of spectators to the area.
What started off as a chilly and windy day at the Flagler Pier turned into a gathering spot for neighbors and visitors alike.
“I thought it was pretty wild,” said Amanda Hildy, who is visiting from Indiana. “I’ve never seen waves this high.”
The area has been prone to flooding and storm surge for years. Hurricane Matthew ripped apart the pier, along with about a mile and a half of the scenic A1A in 2016.
Drivers did endure some minor flooding on roads but saw things clear up by early morning.
Leaders spent more than $22 million fixing up the area including the pier, and hope it could last for storms to come.
