ORLANDO, Fla. — Floyd’s 99 Barbershops of Central Florida and Ripley’s Believe it or Not! teamed up to create the world’s largest hairball.

On Friday, thanks to the thousands of Floyd’s 99 Barbershop clients who participated in Ripley’s Shave the Beard and Make it Weird challenge, Floyd’s Barbershops was presented with an official Guinness World Records™ certificate presented by Ripley’s for Hoss the Human Hairball.

Hoss the Human Hairball is now recognized by Guinness World Records™ as the largest ball of human hair, coming in at a whopping 225.13 pounds.

“Through Ripley’s efforts, over 3,000 people added a strand, snippet, or whole head of hair to Hoss, but we wouldn’t have been able to achieve this hair-raising feat without our friends at Floyd’s,” said Amanda Joiner, Ripley’s vice president of licensing, publishing and online marketing.

According to a news release, when the hairball arrived in Orlando, it was about 100 pounds and grew to its current size after nearly 15,000 Floyd’s clients contributed their hair to the cause.

“When we started this, we were asked by clients, ‘Why would we do this?’ I think the better question is, ‘Why not?’” Floyd’s owner, Sarah Sleeth, said. “In such a dark time in history, with so much stress, why not bring a laugh to Central Florida?”
