BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A Brevard County jury was shown crime scene evidence in the trial of Sheila Graham-Trott, who is accused of killing her former friend, Kelly Brennan.
Brennan's body was found near Mark's Landing in Feb. 2010 in south Melbourne Beach.
The jury saw photos of Brennan, who worked as a nurse in Indialantic, along with the Trott's car and the victim's soiled clothing.
Authorities said Brennan suffered repeated blows to her head by a flat, round object.
Crime scene technician Candace Matthews showed the jury the workout clothing the victim was wearing when she was found. Her personal trainer testified Brennan never made it to her appointment.
Matthews described what she saw of Brennan’s injuries during her observation of the autopsy.
“There were injuries to the right side of the victim’s head. Some of them were visible on the photographs yesterday,” she said.
More evidence was documented on Brennan’s vehicle, where investigators said they found bloodstains in and around the car.
Graham-Trott’s car was also processed for possible blood evidence, but the defense was quick to point out what wasn’t collected, particularly where the victim was found.
“All that dirt and debris, at the end you have 29 spots of dirt. Was that dirt tested for blood? It was not,” said defense attorney Mark Lanning.
Lanning went on to show those weren’t the only samples that weren’t tested.
Prosecutors said Trott was upset that Brennan was dating her then-estranged husband.
Trott was getting a divorce from former Indialantic Mayor Dan Trott.
Witnesses testified that the defendant believed Brennan was interfering with her marriage.
