Legislation proposes task force aimed at keeping better eye on foster children

ORLANDO, Fla. — Some state leaders want to create a task force to make sure children aren’t disappearing while in the Department of Children and Families system.

State Sen. Darryl Rouson, of District 19, says too many kids in foster care are slipping through the cracks, so he’s pushing legislation that he hopes will help keep a better eye on some of Florida’s most vulnerable residents.

Rouson said Senate Bill 1358, officially called Task Force on the Monitoring of Children in Out-of-Home Care, is about bridging the gaps in foster care.

He said the task force would consist of 12-13 people, all from different organizations connected to child welfare, as well as someone who went through the foster care system.

The bill is in its last committee stop in the Senate. Rouson said he’s optimistic it will make it to the governor’s desk.
