Children, parents excited as Legoland Hotel officially opens

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — Legoland's new resort, the Legoland Hotel, is officially open.

A group of children raced to find the key that would open the doors after thousands of Lego minifigures shot from cannons parachuted in during the grand opening Friday.

Channel 9's Roy Ramos reports the hotel was created and built to help fire children's imaginations.

Each of the 150 rooms in the five-story hotel has bunk beds and themes ranging from pirates to kingdoms.

“Kids just play with Legos and they can build, they can put things on the wall and they can show their creations on the shelves in the lobby,” said Adrian Jones, the hotel’s general manager.

One of the many features of the hotel is the Lego Pit, which sits in the lobby of the hotel. The idea is that children can play while their parents check in.

“They jumped into the Lego Pit when we came to check in and we couldn’t get them out,” said guest Donald Jones.

Officials said more than 2,000 Lego creations created from over 2 million blocks adorn the hotel.

"There is a bunk bed and a bunch of Lego creations all around the room, (which has) a perfect view and is truly amazing," visitor Troupe Jones said.

Guests checking into the hotel also have the opportunity to get into Legoland Park, which is just a short walk away, 30 minutes earlier than other park visitors.
