LONGWOOD, Fla. — About 70 old “No Parking” signs in Longwood will have to be replaced after officials learned they’re not up to code.
The city recently learned the signs are too small and don’t clearly tell driver where they can’t park, which make any tickets given to violators questionable in court.
“There's a sign in front of every single house. I think that's a little much,” resident Nikki Sefried said.
“If you're parked right beside the sign, a reasonable person knows you're not supposed to park there,” said Piblic Works Director John Peters.
Longwood police told WFTV they rarely issue tickets to drivers breaking the no parking rule. Usually, police said they only hand out warnings.
But still, city officials admit anyone who has gotten a ticket would have a good chance of getting it tossed out.
Replacing these old signs won't cost much. The city has most of the materials in-house to make the new signs, and tThe old ones will be recycled.
The new ones will include arrows and wording, though Sefried said she isn't convinced they're even needed.
“I think there are more important signs to put up aside from a no parking sign,” she said.
The city is in the process of replacing all the signs. It'll take about two weeks to complete.
