GROVELAND, Fla. — The City of Groveland has promoted Lt. Sammy Anderson to serve as the city’s new police chief.
Anderson has worked for Groveland for 15 years and has 23 years of law enforcement experience, according to the city. He most recently served as the department’s special operations lieutenant.
The city said employees expressed a strong preference for promoting the next chief from within the department.
Fire Chief Kevin Carroll conducted individual interviews with department employees and completed an analysis of the agency before Anderson’s selection.
Carroll, who had been serving as interim public safety director, has been permanently appointed to that position. He will continue serving as fire chief.
Anderson succeeds former Police Chief Shawn Ramsey, who was no longer employed by the city as of Aug. 25. City officials did not publicly explain the circumstances surrounding Ramsey’s departure at the time.
Deputy Chief Armando Loney had been serving as acting police chief following Ramsey’s departure.
The city described Anderson’s career as an example of its goal of providing employees with opportunities to grow, lead and build careers in public service.
