Man shot by AK-47 in Orange Blossom Trail motel room

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — Orange County detectives are reviewing surveillance pictures of a violent crime at an area motel.

They said a man with a high-powered rifle pumped bullets into a room 119 at the Knights Inn motel on Orange Blossom Trail, wounding the man inside, and they're looking for the shooter.

Area residents woke up to rapid gunfire just before 4 a.m. Thursday.

"It was really bad damage. They shot everything. There was blood on the wall," neighbor Freddy Gonzalez said.

Deputies would only confirm that they have video that they're reviewing. But Knights Inn employees said the video shows the shooter pull up in a car and open fire.

There are at least four cameras on the first floor here that captured the crime, employees said.

At this point detectives aren't sure who the shooter was, but they said they are positive the shooter used a an AK-47, and fired at least 20 rounds into the room.

Gun experts told us AK-47s are the most-produced gun in history, with more than 100 million of them around the world. They can fire up to 15 rounds per second, and the bullets can easily tear through drywall. In this case the bullets even went through concrete.

The man in room 119 at the time was lucky. He was shot just once in the buttocks, but he'll be fine.

Tonight, investigators will not confirm if he was targeted, even though all the bullets were fired into one room.

Because the shooting happened in the wee hours of the morning, the sheriff's office is waiting for the overnight crew to get back on the clock to continue working the case.
