Bell killings 911 call: 'All the kids are dead in the house'

BELL, Fla. — WFTV obtained a frightening 911 call Tuesday that a father made after he killed his daughter and six grandchildren in Bell last week.

The eerie call begins with Don Spirit telling the 911 dispatcher, "I just shot my daughter and shot all my grandkids, and I'm going to be sitting on my step, and when you get here, I'm going to shoot myself."

Dispatcher: "Alright, Don. What kind of gun do you have?"

Spirit: "It doesn't matter what kind of gun I got. They're all dead. And, when you get here, I'll shoot myself. And then you figure out what kind of gun it is."

Dispatcher: "How long ago did this happen, Don?"

Spirit: "I don't want to hear it, ma'am. I'm done with every (expletive) thing. Just bring the (expletive) (expletive) out here. That's all. You got all the kids are dead in the house."

The 51-year-old Spirit is accused of killing his daughter, 28-year-old Sarah Spirit, and his six grandchildren before taking his own life.

Gilchrist County Sheriff Robert Schultz released the names of the victims. In addition to Sarah Spirit, the slain children were identified as Kaleb Kuhlmann, 11; Kylie Kuhlmann, 9; Johnathon Kuhlmann, 8; Destiny Stewart, 5; Brandon Stewart, 4; and Alanna Stewart, who was born in June.

When deputies arrived at the home, which sits on a long dirt road on 29th Street, they said all seven victims were dead. Deputies confronted Spirit before he killed himself in front of the officers.

Authorities said Spirit used a .45 caliber handgun in the shootings. Federal state and local authorities are still trying to figure out how the convicted felon got the weapon.

Officials said they don't know the motive behind the killings.

WFTV found the family had a history with the Department of Children and Families and was being investigated by the agency for drugs two weeks before the shooting.
