Ocala man arrested, accused of fatally shooting man, fleeing traffic stop

MARION COUNTY, Fla. — An Ocala man accused of fatally shooting a man in October before fleeing a traffic stop was arrested Monday, Marion County deputies said.

Deputies said Johnnie Samuel, 30, shot and killed Willie Lee Jones Jr., 60, along Southeast 95th St. in Ocala on Oct. 26.

Deputies said Samuel fled the scene in an older model Cadillac convertible. Deputies said they attempted to pull Samuel over a short time later while entering Interstate 75 southbound at Highway 484, but Samuel fled from deputies leading to a pursuit.

Deputies said the pursuit ended when they performed a successful maneuver to spin and stop Samuel’s car in Sumter County.

Samuel was taken into custody and placed under arrest by the Sumter County’s Sheriff’s Office for fleeing or attempting to elude.

Deputies said a search of Samuel’s vehicle turned up a .38-caliber Charter Arms revolver, which through FDLE’s forensic analysis was matched as the firearm used to kill Jones.

Since his arrest in Sumter County, Samuel has been held in the Sumter County Jail without bond. He has since been transported to the Marion County Jail where he will be held without bond for the charge of murder.
