KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Central Florida may be known internationally for its family-friendly theme parks, but there a new attraction open for business involving machine guns.
Machine Gun America in Kissimmee allows people as young as 13 years old to shoot high-powered weapons.
The attraction, which opens Saturday, is triggering concerns about safety.
The instructors claim the community has nothing to worry about, and that safety is a top priority.
“It’s going to cater to people looking for that exciting, different kind of experience,” said Bruce Nierenberg, who works at Machine Gun America.
The experience involves military-style weapons that can fire up to 70 rounds a minute.
Employees said range safety officers will always be with patrons while they’re shooting the targets.
Workers said there’s no way the bullets could penetrate the walls and fly outside, thanks to more than $4 million in safeguards.
“As far as safety goes, everything here was built to the highest standard. Same type of materials and standards that the FBI and U.S. government uses,” Nierenberg said.
Although children as young as 13 are permitted to shoot, they must be accompanied by a parent or guardian, along with a safety officer, at all times.
