No charges yet in death of woman, but person of interest remains in custody

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — No charges have been filed in the death of an Altamonte Springs woman.

A person of interest in the case remains in federal custody, but Winter Park police are staying tight-lipped about their investigation.

They have not said how Jennifer Fulford, 56, came in contact with Scott Nelson, 53.

Nelson is being held in federal violation of probation charges.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement said on Monday it will take its time evaluating the evidence.

“Now Is the time for us to be methodical in our approach to our investigation,” said FDLE Special Agent Danny Banks.

Time is on the detective's side now, because there is no rush to file charges, according to WFTV legal analyst Bill Sheaffer.

“Prosecutors have plenty of time to investigate this case, take it to a grand jury and get an indictment,”

Sheaffer said. “This defendant is in federal custody and the likelihood that he’s going to be released is slim to none.”

Nelson was found in a Jacksonville motel over the weekend, days after Fulford disappeared.

She was employed by Winter Park’s Reid Berman and his family. Fulford took care of a child along with performing other duties at the home on Webster Avenue.

It’s where Berman found her purse and where she may have disappeared.
