OCALA, Fla. — A veteran police officer in Ocala has been cleared in the fatal shooting of a man who authorities say killed a woman and her mother.
Both the State Attorney's Office and an internal review by the Ocala Police Department found that Lt. Dan Wilson did not violate agency policies in the October shooting.
The Ocala Star-Banner reports that Wilson shot 54-year-old Ricardo De Jesus Barrera after police learned that Barrera had shot his girlfriend and her mother.
Police found the bodies of 34-year-old Bonnie Lyn Motto, and her mother, 67-year-old Julia Motto, and Barrera fled the scene on his motorcycle.
Police say Barrera crashed and pointed a semi-automatic handgun at Wilson, who shot and killed Barrera.
