ORLANDO, Fla.,None — Occupy Orlando protested on Thursday about jobs and inadequate infrastructure.
The crowd of Occupy Orlando protesters at Senator Beth Johnson Park near the Orlando Regional Chamber of Commerce was sparse late Thursday.
One of the protesters told WFTV the Central Florida AFL-CIO joined them on the bridge over Interstate 4 to get attention for their push for more jobs.
"The only way we're going to get out of this mess is if we have enough jobs to give people enough to reinvest into the economy. If everyone's homeless and unemployed then there's no stimulus for the economy whatsoever," said protester Todd Gerding.
Gerding of Windermere said he has a job, but when he's not working he's trying to raise awareness to help those who don't.
Another protester, Trevor Leiker, said he's joined the Occupy Orlando movement to fight against corruption and the recent wars our country has gotten involved in.
"We've had three wars in 10 years, two of them over lies and that's over $3,000 every minute that is maintaining those wars," said Leiker.
Orlando police said they did not plan to put additional officers out there because they expected an orderly crowd.
