Suspect shot by police after hitting Winter Garden officer, police say

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Winter Garden police shot a pizza delivery driver, who they said rammed his car into an officer, breaking his leg.

Police said the shooting happened outside the Italian Garden Pizzeria on West Colonial Drive in the Publix Super Market at West Point Commons in Winter Garden.

Police said a pizza delivery driver got into a fight, punched his boss and left.

Police were called to investigate that incident.

“Our officers tried to stop him, but he fled, so we didn’t make contact,” said Lt. Keith Ralston of the Winter Garden Police Department.

When the suspect returned to pick up his last paycheck, witnesses said he was upset it was not his actual last paycheck, so he stormed out of the business and was confronted by police.

During questioning, police said the suspect disobeyed orders and then rammed his vehicle into an officer, pinning the officer between his car and a dumpster.

“He couldn’t walk. They had to carry him. Two officers picked him up and carried him,” said witness Michael Thompson.

The suspect’s vehicle was riddled with bullet holes.

Two officers shot at the suspect and injured him.

The suspect and the officer were taken to the hospital.

Officials have not released their conditions or identities.

The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating the shooting.

Cops just shot someone at the Italian garden in winter garden. Really hope it wasn't my nephew's friend. Not looking good.
