Orange County has plans for a potential eviction diversion program.

The proposed program will be presented Aug.11 to the Orange County Commission for consideration. Orange County Mayor Jerry Demings said during an Aug. 3 press conference that the goal would be to help residents who cannot pay their current or past rent or mortgage payments to avoid eviction or foreclosure with federal Coronavirus Aid, Relief, and Economic Security (CARES) Act funding.

"We still are having the conversation, but more than likely this will be for individuals and families," Demings said.

Florida currently has a moratorium on evictions and foreclosures for those impacted by the pandemic, which is set to expire Sept. 1 unless extended. The state order does not excuse residents from paying their rent or mortgage.
