ORLANDO, Fla. — Their names were read one by one as a candle was lit in their honor. In many cases, this was the only commemoration of their death.
People packed a downtown Orlando church Tuesday to remember the 130 homeless people who died in 2019.
The Homeless Person’s Memorial Service has been held in Central Florida since 2002 to memorialize the deaths of homeless people in Orange, Seminole and Osceola counties.

Advocates, community leaders and service providers shared stories of admiration for those who died.
“He was always trying to make more money, and I just loved his passion for life,” one attendee said.
Similar services were held in more than 125 cities across the country.
