Hurricane Ida: Local search, rescue teams to deploy to Louisiana

Central Florida search and rescue teams to deploy to Louisiana and help with Hurricane Ida aftermath Central Florida fire departments will gather Monday morning to deploy after the landfall of Category 4 storm Hurricane Ida.

ORLANDO, Fla. — Central Florida fire departments will gather Monday morning to deploy after the landfall of Category 4 storm Hurricane Ida.

The Florida USAR Task Force 4 will travel to Louisiana to meet with the Louisiana State Fire Marshal to deliver orders.

The state’s Urban Search & Rescue team will include the Orlando Fire Department, Orange County Fire Rescue and Seminole County Fire Department, Clermont Fire Department, Osceola County Fire Rescue, Kissimmee Fire Department, Melbourne Fire Department and the Local Emergency Planning Committee (LEPC).

There will be about 40 firefighters as part of the deployment that typically lasts 14 days.

Task Force 4 specializes in structural collapse, swift water rescue, wide area search and hazardous materials.

The team includes firefighters, paramedics, structural engineers, doctors, search and rescue K-9s and other highly trained specialists.

The mission of the Urban Search & Rescue team is to respond to natural and human-made disasters and provide search and rescue, medical support, communications and damage assessment.

The US&R Task Force 4 team has been deployed to more than 10 incidents within Florida, Louisiana and Texas since being founded in 2004.

On June 25, 42 members of US&R Task Force 4 were deployed to serve in rescue efforts in the Surfside building collapse in Miami.
