Investigators said Gandy’s car was hit with dozens of bullets around 3 a.m.

A Crimeline reward was increased from $5,000 to $10,000 earlier this month for anyone who can help law enforcement make an arrest in Gandy’s death.

“What happened on the morning of June 1 was not meant for my child,” Gandy’s mother, Chanta Parson, said Tuesday.

Parson said her daughter, who was a recent graduate of Jones High School, was visiting a friend at the apartment complex.

The family’s attorney said they were told there was another person in the car with Gandy at the time of the shooting, but that person wasn’t injured. Deputies said it was a drive-by shooting.

“Why would somebody do this to my child?” Parson said.

The attorney said he’s investigating what happened that night and how the friend could have been in the car with Gandy but not get hit. He’s also looking into whether the apartment complex played a role in the lack of security and cameras.
