ORLANDO, Fla. — Orange County leaders honored fallen members of the military Sunday morning.
The community was invited to take part in a virtual ceremony to mark Orange County’s second annual Gold Star Mothers and Families Day.

The service for more than a dozen local fallen soldiers started at 10 a.m. on the county’s website.
“When these people left, they were not expecting to not come back home,” said Tommie Maldonado, with the Orange County Veteran Services Office. “It just so happens they did things to protect the people next to them.”
