Orange County to open COVID-19 vaccines for ages 40 and up at convention center on Monday

ORLANDO, Fla. — While the recovery rate remains at 97% for COVID-19 in Orange County, health leaders say the numbers are starting to rise again.

Officials said spring break might have something to do with the recent rise.

Records show the biggest rise in cases in now is ages 18 to 25.

Orange County Health Officer Dr. Raul Pino said the numbers are decreasing in the senior population and increasing in ages 0 to 39.

The median age for COVID-19 cases in Orange County right now is 30.

There has also been a major decrease in cases inside long-term care facilities.

Currently, only nine residents in assisted living facilities are positive for COVID-19 in Orange County.

More than 64% of people age 60 and older have had at least one COVID-19 vaccine dose in the county. 17.5% of county residents have been vaccinated.

Pino said overall immunity is probably higher than that because the VA numbers are not being included.

Many also have natural immunity right now from previous infections.

Pino said Central Florida will not reach herd immunity anytime soon, however, with the level of hesitancy they’re seeing.
