Orlando police chief semifinalist for chief of police position in Fort Lauderdale

ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando police Chief Orlando Rolon is one of eight semifinalists for a chief of police position in Fort. Lauderdale.

Rolon told Mayor Buddy Dyer’s office that he interviewed for the position.

The city of Fort Lauderdale started its search for a new chief of police back in September. Officials closed the search and reviewed the candidates but they didn’t find the right person for the job.

They reopened the search for a second time in late March and closed it in late April. When the city released a list of semifinalists, Rolon made the cut.

When Channel 9′s Alexa Lorenzo asked Rolon if he had interviewed with the police department he said it would be premature for him to comment on it.

Dyer’s office released the following statement:

“At this time, it is our understanding that process is still ongoing. As such, at this time, Chief Rolon is still Orlando’s Police Chief. Until or if that changes, Mayor Dyer is not speculating on what future decisions he will make.”
