ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A former OUC building that became home to several arts organizations over the years could soon be up for sale.

On Friday, OUC will issue a request for proposals soliciting licensed real estate brokers to assist in determining the sales potential of its Ivanhoe building, located on North Orange Avenue.

“OUC is determining the best use of our assets to ensure we’re meeting our commitment to provide value to the community we serve. Affordability through stable and competitive pricing is a priority as we move through a transition to a clean energy plan that includes substantial investments in renewables and corresponding infrastructure,” Clint Bullock, OUC’s General Manager & CEO, said in a prepared statement. “We believe the potential sale of this asset once the value is established may help us partially offset these costs.”

The plant was owned by OUC since the 1920s and taken offline in 1958. The plant was OUC’s first source of energy and water. It has been vacant since 2013.

The building was designate a historic landmark by the Orlando City Council in 1987. Following renovations in the 1980s, it was converted to an arts center in partnership with the Orlando Ballet and other performing arts organizations.

“As shown by its use after being a power and water plant, the building offers opportunities in the marketplace to creatively repurpose the site and facilities especially as the Ivanhoe Village neighborhood continues to grow,” Bullock said.

OUC is seeking RFP respondents serving as licensed commercial real estate brokers in Central Florida and who have experience with Orlando commercial market valuations, brownfield development, adaptive re-use of older facilities, and representing municipal government clients, the company said.

The RFP will be available here. Proposals are due July 19.
