ORLANDO, Fla. — Orlando City Commissioner Regina Hill is convinced that her daughter’s death was no accident.
Hill said she recently received a death certificate from the state that shows the official cause of death for Avonni Debose is still not known, but the contributing factor was from inhaling bleach.
“It’s still unbelievable to me that she’s not coming back,” said Hill. “It’s the bleach attack. That is what killed my daughter.”
There have been rumors since the August death of Debose, in Tallahassee, that she may have been beat up by a group of girls or a man she went to visit.
Hill said her daughter went to the hospital the day before she died and told hospital employees that someone doused her in bleach.
Hill said Debose was treated and released and wouldn’t tell anyone who attacked her.
The next day, Debose was dead.
“From my understanding, there are people who saw this attack, but no one has come forward in Tallahassee,” Hill said.
In the meantime, Tallahassee police won’t give any information to the media in the case.
They gave Channel 9 a statement Friday, saying it was only a death investigation and that detectives are looking for witnesses.
Sources told Channel 9 that drugs were involved in the death and were waiting on toxicology reports to see if it was a possible overdose.
Hill told Eyewitness News she has a copy of the toxicology report and it says there were no drugs in her daughter's system.
“My daughter isn’t me. I might have had some trouble in my life as a young lady, and up until now, but my daughter was a good girl,” said Hill.
Police won’t call it a murder investigation and won’t say if there is a suspect on the loose.
