Orlando homebound seniors get their shot, thanks to a new mobile COVID-19 vaccination unit

ORLANDO, Fla — Today for the very first time in central Florida the Orange Blossom Family Health Center rolled out its mobile unit to vaccinate homebound seniors.

Their first stop was the home of Vicki Bebout from Washington Shores.

Bebout has been bedridden for 15 months and today she was one of the first to get the vaccination from the mobile unit.

“I can’t get out of the house, I can’t get in the car to drive anywhere, I have to be transported either with an ambulance on a gurney or a wheelchair so it’s very difficult and very expensive,” Vicki Bebout said. “I’ve got a brand-new grandson that’s nine months old and I have seen him 3/4 times at a distance.”

Bakari Burns with Orange Blossom Family Health says, “These individuals were selected we were going around the district in District 6 letting people know about the availability of the vaccines we found there were several homebound seniors who wanted to get the vaccine but it wasn’t convenient for them.”

The team has about 1100 doses of the vaccine and the mobile unit will roll out every Tuesday until the doses run out.
