If you’ve been downtown lately, you’ve probably noticed empty storefronts.

City officials hope a proposed downtown Orlando temporary window wrap pilot program can solve the issue.

“The goal here basically, is to make it a little bit more aesthetically pleasing,” said Jason Burton, the city of Orlando planning division manager.

Instead of showcasing torn curtains, businesses would be able to place attractive wrap on their storefront while it’s being renovated or if it’s just ugly and vacant.

“It’s a really necessary thing to do so that we can be better looking as we’re trying to renovate,” Burton said.

No permits will be needed, but business owners will have to pay a small clerical fee and the installation costs.

Business owner Jolie Osmanov’s all for it.

“That would be awesome. Honestly, I mean, anything to make downtown or Orlando pretty, I think would be definitely a help for all business owners in the city,” Osmanov said.

City leaders will vote on the pilot program at a 2 p.m. meeting.

If approved, the city will do some outreach to local property owners and businesses with premises under construction or vacant.
