St. Cloud city council member Charles “Chuck” Cooper dies at 72

ST. CLOUD, Fla. — City council member Charles E. “Chuck” Cooper died on Saturday morning, city officials said. He was 72.

Cooper’s service to the city spanned nearly four decades.

The city said Cooper was first elected to the City Council in 1985. He served 1985-1988, 1994-1995, and 2016-2021, having been re-elected most recently in November 2020.

“Chuck Cooper was passionate about the City of St. Cloud,” said city manager William Sturgeon. “He didn’t hesitate to let you know when he disagreed with you, and I respected that. He always did what he thought was best for the citizens and the city. Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Cooper also served on the City’s Code Enforcement Board from 2003 until 2016. He was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW), the city said.
