The utility paid $60 million for the land and an inactive natural gas power plant site, facilities and inventory, spokesman Tim Trudell told the Orlando Business Journal.

The property portion of the total was $5.74 million, according to the Osceola County Property Appraiser. The seller was Texas-based Genova.

OUC plans to invest another $40 million to get the 20-year-old power plant operational and connect it to the utility’s grid.

The 510-megawatt facility eventually will allow for the retirement of the coal-powered Stanton Unit One at Stanton Energy Center that was built in 1987.
