Man arrested after 4-year-old girl drowns in Kissimmee

KISSIMMEE, Fla. — Police said a man was arrested after a 4-year-old girl drowned in a Kissimmee pool Friday evening.

The incident happened at a pool at the Coral Cay townhomes around 8 p.m., police said

Officials said the 4-year-old, who was at the pool with two adults and several other children, was found at the bottom of the pool unresponsive. She was pronounced deceased at a nearby hospital shortly after.

Police said the adults at the pool who were supervising the children were Elijah Morton and his girlfriend, Gwendolyn Henderson. Henderson tried to perform CPR on the girl following the drowning, while Morton told her to stop take the children back home, according to investigators.

Police said Morton was near the girl at the time of the drowning. He was subsequently charged with aggravated child neglect and booked into the Osceola County jail.

The victim, who is the daughter of Henderson's relative, was visiting with the family from Alabama.
