Power restored following outage in International Drive area

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Power has been restored to the International Drive area after an outage was reported late Monday afternoon.

The outage created problems for a number residents, hotels and drivers around 3:30 p.m.

Duke Energy officials said there were outages near the Orange County Convention Center and Pointe Orlando, as well as near SeaWorld and Discovery Cove. Some traffic lights in the area were also affected by the outage.

According to officials, the largest number of people affected were in the Williamsburg community, where 1,901 customers lost power at one point.

Fire rescue officials said some people had to be rescued from stopped elevators, but there were no injuries.

Company officials said that the problem was with a substation.

About 2,500 were affected by the outage. By 5 p.m., power had been restored to the affected customers, according to Duke Energy.
