Questions surround suspected gunman's motive at Orlando apartment

ORLANDO, Fla. — A man accused of firing shots at an Orlando apartment complex was arrested Thursday afternoon, police said.

Two children were inside an apartment with Tremon Jones, 23, at the Cornerstone Apartment complex. They were rescued through an open window, the Orlando Police Department said.

Members of the OPD SWAT unit surrounded the apartment near Michigan Avenue and Conway Road after receiving a report of shots fired.

The report was made at about 8 a.m. at Cornerstone Apartments, officers said.

"I heard some gunshots and when I looked outside, I saw a black male with dreads shooting randomly at cars,” said a neighbor.

At about 11:20 a.m., OPD reported on Twitter that there was a suspect inside the complex with a gun.

"Oh, it's very scary. I mean, I didn't want to get shot, so I had to duck behind a wall,” a neighbor said.

There are reports Jones is the boyfriend of the children’s mother.

No injuries were reported in connection with the situation.

It’s still unclear why Jones was allegedly shooting off the gun.

He’s been charged with aggravated child abuse, discharging firearm in public, reckless display of firearm, resisting without violence and shooting into an unoccupied vehicle.

Eyewitness News learned that Jones’ criminal history dates back to when he was 13 when he was caught driving a vehicle without a license.

He’s also been charged with theft, drug possession and burglary.
