Quick-thinking neighbors use grill lid to wrangle 12-foot python

SOUTH FLORIDA — Residents in a south Florida neighborhood can breathe a sigh of relief after a 12-foot-long python slithered in for the holiday weekend.

"When I was with my dad and when I seen it, I jumped off my bike and ran. I was scared. I never seen that before," said witness Juan Rivero Jr.

The huge snake showed up in the Miami-Dade County neighborhood on Friday.

Residents panicked at the sight of it.

"I look and it's on the lady's porch and it was huge, and I said, 'Oh my God, it's a python.' And the head was bigger than my hand," said another witness.

Rivero Sr. and another quick-thinking neighbor used the lid of a barbecue grill to wrangle the reptile into a pillow case.

First responders later arrived to haul the snake away.
