DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Tortugas infielder Rafhlmil Torres has been named the Florida State League Player of the Week for Aug. 4-9, Minor League Baseball announced Monday.
Torres is the fourth Daytona player to earn Florida State League honors this season, joining Jacob Friend, Lisnerkin Lantigua, and Ty Doucette. During the six-game series at St. Lucie, Torres batted .565 (13-for-23) with a .565/.577/.696 slash line, nine runs scored, three doubles, four RBIs, one walk, one stolen base, and a 1.273 OPS.
Among all Florida State League hitters during the week, Torres ranked first in batting average (.565), on-base percentage (.577), and hits (13). He tied for first in runs scored with nine and doubles with three. Additionally, he placed second in OPS at 1.273 and total bases with 16, and third in slugging percentage at .696.
Beyond his award-winning week, Torres has posted strong numbers since July 28. Over that stretch, he leads the league in batting average at .512, hits with 22, and runs scored with 16. He also ranks second in on-base percentage at .542, third in OPS at 1.240, fifth in slugging percentage at .698, tied for first in doubles with five, tied for fifth in RBIs with 10, tied for fourth in extra-base hits with six, and third in total bases with 30.
Torres signed with the Cincinnati Reds as an international free agent out of Venezuela in January 2023. He is in his first full season with Daytona after playing 17 games with the club in 2025 and spending three years in the Reds organization. Torres leads the Florida State League with 101 games played and is the only player in the league to appear in 100 or more games this season.
Defensively, Torres holds a .965 fielding percentage at shortstop, the highest among qualified league shortstops, and has posted a .991 fielding percentage in 28 games at second base. Across both middle infield positions, he has committed 11 errors in 392 total chances for a .972 fielding percentage while helping turn 60 double plays. Since June 19, Daytona leads the league in batting average (.278), hits (380), on-base percentage (.398), OPS (.827), fielding percentage (.979), and double plays turned (51).
