ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A string of violent sex assaults in Orange County are now tied to one man.
Orlando police said Edgar Collazo, known as the alleged “Hello Kitty Rapist” because of a tattoo, has been targeting and terrorizing women since 2010.
DNA evidence has him facing new charges for a rape case from four years ago, police said.
Collazo has been behind bars since May after a sexual attack on a woman outside an Orlando IHOP.
DNA evidence collected from that scene recently tied him to another alleged rape at the Bellagio Apartments on south Semoran Boulevard from four years ago.
The victim was inside her apartment Collazo broke inside, according to investigators.
The victim told detectives his face was covered and he was holding a knife to her throat while he raped her.
“Even if you survive, you never really survive because you never get over that. It’s sad this was even going on in this neighborhood,” said Keisha Graves, who lives in the Bellagio Apartments.
The victim joined the Army after the incident and returned from a tour of duty in Afghanistan this week.
She was able to identify Collazo in a photo lineup.
That makes four cases total against Collazo.
Investigators said he also raped a 13-year-old girl at the same apartment complex that year.
Investigators said DNA also linked him to a 2012 home invasion and rape case of a University of Central Florida student at the Auvers Village Apartments.
