Rescued sea turtle set to be released in Ponce Inlet

VOLUSIA COUNTY, Fla. — A 16-pound sea turtle named Ashely is set to be released back into the ocean Friday.

Ashley was found April 17 on the beach in Daytona Beach Shores behind the Ashley Condominiums.

The turtle was upside down at the tide line and was underweight, dehydrated and lethargic.

She also has a laceration under her neck that required treatment and surgery.

The animal was treated and recovered at the Volusia County Marine Science Center.

Ashley will be released at 10 a.m. at the Beach Street approach in Ponce Inlet.
