Residents awaken to slashed tires on Thanksgiving

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla.,None — Several residents in an Orange County neighborhood are furious after they woke up on Thanksgiving Day to slashed tires.

One victim of the tire vandalism said she saw a red SUV driving away and called 911 after she noticed the damage to her car. Police found 11 damaged cars along Spring Run Avenue near Conway Road.

Laven Amone is outraged because her black SUV was vandalized.

"People are planning on going places Thanksgiving Day, and they have to get up to something like this. That is terrible," said Amone. "Whoever did it, you're jerks. That is just ridiculous to do this to people."

Cpl. Wayne Murphy with the Orange County Sheriff's Office has seen tire slashing before, but he said there's something extra sinister about it happening on Thanksgiving.

"Thanksgiving is a day to get together with family and friends, and then somebody has got to come out here and ruin it for a bunch of folks," he said.

John Williamson said he is relieved that he had two spare tires to temporarily fix his son's car, but he still expects to pay at least $200 to get new tires.

"I will just say that I pray to God that you understand that you have done a lot of damage to people who are struggling out here," said Williamson.

Investigators are looking into the description of the getaway car and are talking with other victims.
