Residents in Orange County neighborhood say rundown house is safety hazard

ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — Residents in an east Orange County neighborhood said an eyesore of a home needs to go.

One resident said the dilapidated house is so bad, he’s afraid it could turn into a death trap if a child wanders inside.

The run-down house is on Moderna Way close to Goldenrod and Curry Ford roads.

Neighbors said they’ve been trying to get the home cleaned up for a while.

Salvatore Greco called Orange County Code Enforcement to report the dilapidated building, which has a broken door, collapsed roof and shattered glass windows.

The empty home is also filled with trash, but the biggest concern for neighbors is a live wire draped across the backyard.

“Every time I drive by it, it just kills me. It upsets me because I know it’s a death trap,” Greco said.

Marge Burns said she caught her grandchildren playing in the rubble.

“It needs to be taken down,” she said.

A county code enforcement official said the property was deemed in violation of code in July of last year.

An investment company bought the place in December for $20,000 and re-sold it within the last couple of weeks.

“I’ve been in construction for 45 years and I’ve never seen anything get this rundown. I can’t believe it can get rundown like that without being torn down,” Greco said.

The owner of the investment company said the new owner plans to clean up the place soon.

The county plans to board up the home if that doesn’t happen.
