APOPKA, Fla. — A familiar stench of rotten eggs has returned to an Apopka neighborhood, and residents say it’s coming from a nearby landfill.
Complaints about the offensive odor got the attention of county officials, who sent environmental inspectors out to the landfill to investigate Wednesday.
“It’s more of a sour smell, like old, sour mud,” said J.R. Driggers, who works at a property near the landfill on Golden Gem Road.
Those who live and work in the neighborhood near the Mid-Florida Materials landfill say the stench has been emanating from the landfill for two months.
Complaints began piling up in Orange County Commissioner Bryan Nelson’s office, prompting the county to send inspectors.
Mid-Florida Materials told the county the stench is a result of moving waste and it hopes to have it contained later in the week.
