ORANGE COUNTY, Fla. — A teen who was shot and critically injured outside an Orange County apartment complex Thursday evening is out of surgery and in stable condition, Channel 9 has learned.
Two teens were hospitalized after being shot at the Millenia West apartment complex near South Texas Avenue and Americana Boulevard.
The 17-year-old who was critically injured was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center. A 13-year-old gunshot victim was taken to Arnold Palmer Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Investigators said the 13-year-old was shot in the buttocks and the older teen was shot in the stomach.
Orange County Sheriff Jerry Demings said a teenager opened fire outside the apartment complex in a case of gang violence.
“Whenever children are carrying guns, that’s an ingredient for failure,” Demings said. “The community ought to be outraged. There’s no question there is gang activity here.”
Investigators are still searching for the shooter and asking for the community's help.
"There's someone that saw what occurred out here tonight. We want them to come forward and share information,” Demings said.
“It’s just tragic. Stuff like that shouldn’t be happening, especially to people of that age,” said resident Keaton Ashworth.
