SEMINOLE COUNTY, Fla. — The Seminole County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of an inmate at the John E. Polk Correctional Facility on Friday.
Deputies said 28-year-old inmate, Stephen C. Steen of Longwood, was found unresponsive in his cell shortly before 10 a.m. Friday during a routine check of inmates.

A correctional facility staff member immediately began CPR and also utilized an AED in an attempt to revive Steen, deputies said. EMTs arrived on scene and continued to try and revive Steen, but their attempts were unsuccessful and Steen was pronounced dead.
According to deputies, the initial investigation indicates Steen’s death was medical in nature. The investigation continues pending the results of an autopsy performed by the medical examiner.
