Work continues months after viral video shows repair nightmare at Winter Springs apartments

WINTER SPRINGS, Fla. — The noise, mess and concerns about safety are continuing for people living in a Winter Springs apartment complex.

Channel 9 reported last month that residents experienced workers cutting through walls into their apartments, and even nails flying in.

One month later, the project still isn’t done.

Some residents said they are dealing with constant noise.

It is a project they thought would be done in two weeks that has turned into three months.

At Laurel Oaks Apartments, Brooke Peeler and her children are dealing with construction noise as they try to do school work during the day.

“Usually, it’s just constant banging, and the walls just, they’re always hammering,” Peeler said.

Their unit was damaged last month after saws tore through walls while they were inside. Holes were punched through, too.

A video shot by her husband went viral on social media.

In recent weeks, they have seen a shower of roof paper falling around them and nails on the ground.

Gaps in the window frames let cold air in, and there’s constant concern about people watching them.

“It’s awkward to see somebody outside where you’re wanting to get dressed, so I get dressed in the bathroom,” Peeler said.

Another neighbor’s ceiling collapsed. Yvette Reynolds works from home and said the situation has been a nightmare.

“I’ve had sometimes resort to sleeping down my car, as well as get a hotel room that’s on my day off so I can have some sort of sleep,” Reynolds said.
