Skydiver injured after hard landing in DeLand

Skydive DeLand

DELAND, Fla. — A 27-year-old man was injured Monday when he made a hard landing while skydiving in DeLand, according to police.

The incident was reported near Skydive DeLand.

Investigators said 27-year-old Matthew Serwanski made a hard landing and suffered injuries to his legs and his head.

Serwanski was flown to Halifax Medical Center. His condition has not been released.

In the past year, WFTV has reported on two deaths at the facility.

In April, 33-year-old Jessica Edgeington, an instructor who trained members of the military, died after witnesses said she collided with another jumper.

In January, 31-year-old Navy Seal, William Blake, died during parachute training.

A witness said he saw something fly off Blake's parachute, but that "something" hasn't been identified.

Investigators called all three cases "unfortunate accident(s)."

In the past, the FAA has said its investigation into the accidents is limited to inspecting the parachute rigging.
