According to a news release, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration notified the Clearwater Marine Aquarium of a young, female rough-toothed dolphin that was stranded off Longboat Key.

Trained professionals from the MOTE Marine Laboratory & Aquarium checked the animal’s health and transported it to CMA for rehabilitation.
The CMA staff are still working to figure out what may have caused the stranding.
“The dolphin remains in critical condition but is stable and swimming, which is a hopeful sign,” Dr. Shelly Marquardt said. “We are running full health assessments and (will) continue to monitor the dolphin’s condition.”
