Suspect wanted in fatal Daytona Beach hit-and-run crash that killed elderly man

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. — Daytona Beach police are asking for the public’s help in locating a suspect involved in a fatal hit-and-run crash that killed a 77-year-old Daytona Beach man.

It happened around 8 p.m. Thursday at the intersection of Mason Avenue and Derbyshire Road.

The victim, Alfred Rawling Fleming, was attempting to cross Mason Avenue on foot heading northbound when he was hit by a dark-colored sedan heading west, according to police.

A nearby officer left his vehicle to render aid to Fleming and saw the dark-colored sedan stop briefly at the intersection of Mason Avenue and Lewis Drive before continuing away from the scene.

Paramedics transported Fleming to the hospital where he died from his injuries shortly after.

According to the police’s preliminary investigation, Fleming was not within a marked crosswalk when he was struck.

Detectives are searching for any photos or videos of the vehicle or driver.
