"I am very happy to say this armed and dangerous individual is off the street," said Lt. Robert Pelton of the Altamonte Springs Police Department. "He is our shooter. He is in custody."
It is an emotional time for 34-year-old Marcos Rivera's family.
Rivera's family cried tears of joy and hugged as Pelton announced the arrest of Lilburtie Willis, 23.
"I am just happy. Happy, extremely happy," said Rivera's sister, Mari Rivera.
Willis was arrested on charges of ambushing Rivera, a Loomis armored truck driver, inside an Altamonte Springs Publix last week and shooting him in the head.
"Thank you to everyone that was a part of the whole thing and helped out, identifying the guy. I am at a loss for words right now," Mari Rivera said.
Rivera's family said they are grateful to the detectives who worked the case.
"We want to thank them. They have been great. I don't want to say their names, but there have been a couple that have stayed in contact with all of us and they have been there from day one. They have been there supporting us the whole way," Mari Rivera said.
Rivera's jaw is wired shut, and he has been breathing through a tube. He remains hospitalized at Orlando Regional Medical Center.
