Teacher accused of sex with teens to face judge on new charges

POLK COUNTY, Fla. — A Polk County teacher charged with having sex with one of her students will go before a judge Friday to face new charges.

Police said Jennifer Fichter, 29, was preying on teen boys.

Investigators said they have identified three victims Fichter lured into sexual relationships, using her position as a teacher at central Florida Aerospace Academy.

"If you met her you would love her. She'd be your best friend and I think that's the problem. You would never suspect her as an individual," said parent Abigail Roche.

Roche said she found out that her son was messaging his teacher late at night three years ago. She called investigators in Polk County to put a stop to it.

"I think that she had finished one relationship and was looking for another," said Roche.

Lakeland police said it's difficult to get teen boys to come forward with allegations, but in this case, three boys have so far.

"Really your worst nightmare because you trust the teachers to do the right thing and to help your students not take them backwards and victimize them," said Sgt. Gary Gross of the Lakeland Police Department.

WFTV uncovered allegations against Fichter in Orange County involving an 8th grader. Those accusations never made it to state education officials to keep her from being hired in Polk County.

Lakeland police said they fear there could be more than three victims.
