BREVARD COUNTY, Fla. — A break-in at a Brevard County dealership may be part of a rash of crimes perpetrated the same thieves, investigators said.
Thieves took three cars off the lot at Westside Cars on Merritt Island Wednesday night.
The thieves smashed the glass with a hammer, which was left in the parking lot, and grabbed as many keys as they could.
“I was walking by and I was going over here to the corner and I saw this stuff scattered all over the ground,” said resident Robyn Boyles.
Boyles saw car keys scattered across the pavement.
The board the keys were hanging on got thrown out so hard some of them ended across the lot.
Investigators believe each thief grabbed a set and took a car.
By mid-afternoon, the door was boarded up and the owner was back to his Thanksgiving.
“It’s sad for this car dealer because he’s out three vehicles that I would almost bet my life that are going to end up being used to hurt someone else,” said resident Lawrence Sinclair.
Investigators searched for evidence and took a report.
They’re working to figure out whether the smash-and-grab is related to recent thefts at dealerships in Rockledge and Cocoa.
Investigators have not released a description of the burglars.
