Two officers honored with Purple Heart following shooting

SAINT CLOUD, Fla.,None — Two Saint Cloud police officers shot by a young gunman armed with an AK-47 were honored for their bravery Thursday night.

In November, officers said a 17-year-old went on a shooting spree with the high-powered rifle and injured officers Clint Wise and Spencer Endsley.

On Thursday night, the officers were awarded the Purple Heart for their heroism.

Both Wise and Endsley are still recovering from their injuries.

They spoke with WFTV for the first time.

"Dealing with all of that trauma, mentally and physically, that goes with something like that, is very difficult," said Wise.

"I don't know what it was, but I missed it, I cheated death," said Endsley.

Wise was shot in the foot, and Endsley's face was cut with shattered glass.

The suspect, who shot himself in the head, survived. He's still in jail and awaiting trial.
